There is a drinking water crisis in U.S. public schools

WATER FOUNTAINS3.jpg

Many lower-income schools in the U.S. do not have a single working water fountain.

School districts have shut off water fountains to protect kids from lead poisoning, but a lack of water access affects kids' health and ability to concentrate.

Worse still, kids who can't access safe drinking water are more likely to consume sugary beverages that lead to negative health effects and cognitive issues.

Replacing water fountains in older buildings requires plumbing, masonry, carpentry, lead paint & asbestos mitigation - and there are shortages in all these skilled trades. Replacing a single fountain may cost $60,000 and take up to a year.

Most schools simply shut them off.

Our Solution; working with public schools in low-income communities, we developed a drop-in replacement for broken drinking water fountains.

The Water Spot is a touchless bottle-filler that filters harmful contaminants, such as heavy metals and bacteria, out of drinking water. It is designed to connect to an older fountain's existing water lines and drains and can be installed in minutes.

Several Water Spots are in use by schools in the Los Angeles area, and we're looking to build more.

We are looking to partner with school districts that need safe drinking water and with community foundations that can support brining The Water Spot program to low-income school districts.
